After what was a chaotic past few hours where deals kept circulating, the madness is finally over. Thank you for tuning in! Here’s the final list in its entirety:
OFFICIAL 2007 DEADLINE DEAL LIST
Anaheim gets D Doug O’Brien
Tampa Bay receives D Joe Rullier
Analysis: Basically it’s minor leaguer for minor leaguer. Nothing more to it.
Los Angeles acquires D Jamie Heward
Washington gets conditional draft pick
Analysis: The vet Heward will provide depth and experience on the Kings backline.
Pittsburgh acquires G Nolan Schaefer
San Jose gets 2007 seventh round pick
Analysis: The Penguins add some goalie depth for virtually nothing.
Tampa Bay gets F Jason Ward
Los Angeles receives 2007 fifth round pick
Analysis: Lightning get a support forward who can provide energy and kill penalties while rebuilding Kings continue to stockpile picks.
Buffalo acquires D Mikko Lehtonen
Nashville gets 2007 fourth round pick
Analysis: Sabres address a need on blueline while Nashville parts with an expendable part for a draft pick.
Pittsburgh gets D Joel Kwiatkowski
Florida receives 2007 fourth round pick
Analysis: Penguins add some much needed blueline depth while Panthers get what they can for expendable part.
Chicago gets W Nikita Alexeev
Tampa Bay receives D Karl Stewart plus sixth round pick
Analysis: Blackhawks get a decent forward while Lightning add blueline depth.
Calgary acquires D David Hale plus a 2007 fifth round pick
New Jersey receives 2007 third round pick
Analysis: Devils finally give up on Hale, who never fulfilled expectations. But Hale goes to the right team that seems to love developing blueliners. A reasonable deal for both sides.
St. Louis acquires F Brad Boyes
Boston receives D Dennis Wideman
Analysis: Bruins unload struggling sophomore Boyes for some blueline help in the offensively skilled Wideman. Boyes needed a change of scenery and gets it. On paper, it looks like a good deal for both clubs.
NY Islanders acquire LW Ryan Smyth
Edmonton receives F Robert Nilsson and F Ryan O’Marra plus a 2007 first round pick
Analysis: Isles’ GM Garth Snow pulls off the riskiest trade of the day by landing the gritty heart and soul of the Oilers in Smyth for the disappointing Nilsson and future star O’Marra. No question the Fishsticks better get into the playoffs now. Does Smyth go back to Edmonton this summer? GM Kevin Lowe sure got a lot back.
Dallas acquires D Mattias Norstrom, RW Konstantin Pushkarev plus 2007 3rd and 4th round picks
Los Angeles gets D Jaroslav Modry, Johan Fransson, 2007 2nd and 3rd round picks plus 2008 first round pick
Analysis: Stars add some beef for their blueline which should make them even tougher in postseason while LA continues to sell.
Colorado gets F Scott Parker
San Jose receives TBA
Analysis: Avs reacquire tough guy for second stint.
Toronto gets C Yanic Perreault plus 2008 fifth round pick
Phoenix receives D Brendan Bell plus 2008 second round pick
Analysis: Maple Leafs gear up for playoffs by getting underrated pivot who wins draws and scores goals. It will be Perreault’s second stint in Toronto. Coyotes get an excellent return for a player they signed as a free agent when the season started.
Buffalo acquires C Dainius Zubrus and D Timo Helbling
Washington receives F Jiri Novotny plus 2007 first round pick
Analysis: Sabres address a need with injuries to Chris Drury, Maxim Afinogenov and potential status of Tim Connolly for first round while Caps add solid young player plus a first round pick.
Atlanta gets F Pascal Dupuis plus 2007 third round pick
NY Rangers receive F Alex Bourret
Analysis: Thrashers add gritty winger for playoffs and a pick while Rangers sell off expendable part and go for potential by acquiring the former first round pick from two years ago in same draft as D stud Marc Staal.
Detroit acquires RW Todd Bertuzzi
Florida gets F Shawn Matthias and conditional pick
Analysis: Wings land big rugged power forward to boost Cup hopes while Panthers finally undo awful deal by ex-GM and current TSN analyst Mike Keenan.
Anaheim gets F Brad May
Colorado receives G Michael Wall
Analysis: Ducks beef up while Avs get rid of controversial wing who was involved in Bertuzzi-Moore incident, adding goalie depth.
Ottawa acquires RW Oleg Saprykin and seventh round pick
Phoenix receives 2nd round pick
Analysis: Senators pickup some more forward depth as they gear up for playoff run while Coyotes get decent value.
Boston gets D Aaron Ward
NY Rangers receive D Paul Mara
Analysis: Bruins pickup character defenseman from Rangers while Jaromir Jagr continues to get his way in swap of defense for offense.
Minnesota gets C Dominic Moore
Pittsburgh receives 2007 third round pick
Analysis: Wild acquire solid third line center who can kill penalties while free wheeling Penguins get back something for future.
San Jose gets RW Bill Guerin
St. Louis receives LW Ville Nieminen, F Jay Barriball plus a 2007 first round pick
Analysis: Sharks gear up for playoff run by acquiring power forward who is familiar with Hart winner Joe Thornton from Boston days. Blues continue to plan ahead getting a solid return for player who could wind up back there this summer.
Pittsburgh acquires RW Georges Laraque
Phoenix receives F Dan Garcillo and a 2007 eighth round pick
Analysis: Penguins get enforcer to protect Crosby and Malkin while Coyotes continue to sell in an attempt to rebuild.
Buffalo gets G Ty Conklin
Columbus receives fifth round pick
Analysis: Sabres quickly fill backup void after dealing Biron while Blue Jackets unload spare netminder.
Philadelphia acquires G Martin Biron
Buffalo gets 2007 second round draft pick
Analysis: Flyers get goalie who could become their No.1 while Sabres finally free Biron so that he can help backstop another team and receive excellent value for backup.
Pittsburgh gets LW Gary Roberts
Florida receives D Noah Welch
Analysis: Penguins pickup tons of playoff experience in attempt to toughen up while Panthers get back someone for their blueline in future.
Philadelphia receives D Lasse Kukkonen plus 2007 third round pick
Chicago gets back C Kyle Calder and then swaps him for RW Jason Williams
Detroit acquires C Kyle Calder
Analysis: Flyers continue to bolster blueline for future where they hope Kukkonen, Braydon Coburn and Ryan Parent can team with Joni Pitkanen to solidify D. Red Wings hope Calder returns to form out West. Blackhawks get versatile Williams but fall short in this one.
Vancouver acquires C Bryan Smolinski
Chicago gets back 2007 conditional second round pick
Analysis: Canucks pickup versatile pivot who can play in scoring or checking role and take draws while Blackhawks deal a player who wanted to stay. Rental?
Vancouver gets D Brent Sopel
Los Angeles receives 2008 2nd and 4th round picks
Analysis: Canucks bring back defenseman who’s familiar with system which should bode well while Kings continue to sell off parts for future.
Ottawa acquires D Lawrence Nycholat
Washington receives D Andy Hedlund and a 2007 sixth round pick
Analysis: Senators pickup blueline depth while Capitals plan for future.
NY Islanders get RW Richard Zednik
Washington receives 2007 second round pick
Analysis: Islanders get some offensive help to offset potential loss of leading scorer Jason Blake while Capitals get back decent value for Zednik.
San Jose gets D Craig Rivet and 2008 fifth round pick
Montreal receives D Josh Gorges and 2007 first round pick
Analysis: Sharks pickup blueline depth while Canadiens get solid value for future.
Atlanta acquires LW Keith Tkachuk
St. Louis gets RW Glen Metropolit plus 2007 1st, 3rd round picks and conditional 2008 2nd round pick
Analysis: Thrashers severely overpay for power forward in attempt to make playoffs for first time while Blues team president John Davidson cleans up in this one and should buy Atlanta GM Don Waddell an expensive dinner.
Atlanta gets D Alexei Zhitnik
Philadelphia receives D Braydon Coburn
Analysis: Thrashers get some much needed blueline help while Flyers hope that former high first round pick can help bolster blueline along with Ryan Parent.
Tampa Bay acquires D Shane O’Brien and 2007 third round pick
Anaheim receives G Gerald Coleman and 2007 first round pick
Analysis: Lightning improve their blueline with physical young D while Ducks free up some room to possibly make another deal. If not, then it makes no sense.
Carolina acquires RW Anson Carter
Columbus gets back 2008 fifth round pick
Analysis: Canes pickup veteran forward to help offset injuries to Erik Cole and Cory Stillman. Jackets get minimum return for guy they foolishly signed last summer.
Anaheim picks up F Shane Endicott
Nashville receives F Chris Durno
Analysis: Much Ado ‘Bout Nothing.
NY Islanders acquire D Marc-Andre Bergeron plus 2007 third round pick
Edmonton receives D Denis Grebeshkov
Analysis: Islanders get much needed power play help on blueline and somehow pry a third round pick as well for a player who isn’t guaranteed to come back over from Russia making us wonder if GM Kevin Lowe had one too many scotches.
Nashville gets C Peter Forsberg
Philadelphia receives F Scottie Upshall, D Ryan Parent plus 1st and 3rd round picks
Analysis: Predators get top line playmaking pivot to boost Stanley Cup hopes and ticket sales while Flyers get back two pieces plus high picks for future. Will Forsberg return?
