Wow, that was like watching a clinic defensively. Who the frack knew? The Penguins limited the usually shot-happy Devils to 30 - which is pretty low considering how many they usually throw blindly at the net. Ryan Malone scores on a stupid penalty taken by Patrik Elias is really the only mistake the Devils made tonight, aside from stepping on the ice.
Yeah, that call on Asham on the supposed goal seems fishy, but well, what can you do if it doesn’t pump you up enough to try and get you to score another?
At The Garden on Thursday, and the Rangers can overtake us if they win. Brent Sutter and Co. have some thinking to do before then, with the Rangers 6-0 so far vs. the Devils this season. It’s a must that we are still ahead of the Rangers after this one. I’ll take an OT/SO Loss if I can. Anything to keep us in 4th. It’s simply necessary for this team’s psyche.
Marian Hossa, who was a horse tonight, got rewarded with an empty netter late in front of 16,000+ at The Rock. The Pens now hold both the goal-differential and points in the season series tie-breakers vs. NJ with the win.
