Another annoyance last night

April 5, 2008   ·     ·   Jump to comments

I realize the Boston Bruins haven’t been to the playoffs in what seems like an eternity (well, since before the lockout), but can their announcers at least have a clue on the seedings?

The NESN crew stated after last night’s win over Ottawa that Boston would be playing Pittsburgh or Montreal in the first round and that there was no way Boston could pass Ottawa since Ottawa had more wins.  They apparently didn’t realize Boston was already tied in points and had one game left whereas the Senators have none.  Nor did it occur to them that the Bruins could also pass the Rangers with a win and a Ranger regulation loss.

A ton of hockey fans including myself – and apparently Steve Somers’ producer according to Derek’s post below - that were watching the telecast on a free preview week for Center Ice (how great is that, especially for a final week of the NHL season?) listened to that and assumed New Jersey would be playing the Rangers.  As Lee Corso would say, “Not so fast, my friend!”.
