FLASH: Devils sign Rolston, Holik

No, this isn’t a retro newspaper article from 1995 or Back to the Future Part IV – the Devils actually brought back two players who grew up in New Jersey.  Bobby Holik, a two-time Cup winner in his first tour with the Devils came back on a one year deal for $2.5 million.  While I’m not his biggest fan I do like the move, Holik adds grit and faceoff wins from the fourth line.

However, Brian Rolston from Minnesota was the bigger catch at 4 years and $20 million.  Rolston - a 30-goal scorer in 2007-08 - immediately improves the Devils’ offense and power play, two areas that were sorely lacking last season.  Can’t argue too much with the price here, $5 million per isn’t bad for someone who’s already familiar with the Devil way and can provide 30 goals (although more likely around 20-25, at least until the Devils address the center position on the top two lines) as well as good two-way hockey.
