Sloppy seconds gets Avery suspended

December 2, 2008   ·     ·   Jump to comments

I admit it, I shouldn’t even bother with this douche – all he wants is attention.  But this story’s just too darn funny to pass up.

I have a hard time deciding who’s the bigger joke, Sean Avery for calling ex-girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert the ‘sloppy seconds’ of current bf Dion Phaneuf or the NHL for suspending him indefinitely for said comment on the eve of a Stars-Flames matchup.  I can’t remember ever hearing a player get suspended merely for trash talking, although as usual the ex-Ranger and current Stars agitator crossed the line by dragging someone else’s girlfriend into his need for attention (or showing his own jealousy).

“I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada,” Avery said on camera this morning in Calgary.  “I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds.  I don’t know what that’s about.  Enjoy the game tonight.”

It’s too bad the NHL couldn’t let Calgary get a piece of Avery on-ice, especially since a nondescript Flames-Stars game in December was actually getting some buzz.  When I first heard Avery was going to miss tonight’s game shortly after hearing said quote my immediate reaction was typical douche, writing checks he can’t cash because he’s got a booboo – I never dreamed that would be enough to get him suspended.  Of course this league is paranoid about any unneccesary physical play and bad blood.

At least it doesn’t seem like the Stars are enablers in the neverending Avery fiasco.  Owner Tom Hicks came out with these strong comments in the wake of the suspension:

”Had the league not have suspended him, the Dallas Stars would have,” Hicks stated. “This organization will not tolerate such behaviour, especially from a member of our hockey team. We hold our team to a higher standard and will continue to do so.”

So already a lot of the Star players and now the owner doesn’t respect Avery…a real ringing endorsement of GM’s Brett Hull and Les Jackson for signing Avery to a four year, $16 million deal in the offseason.

He is but Has is exactly right about this league. The same one mind you that made a rule after him then sold t-shirts making money off him. Bettman is a tool!

It should’ve been settled on the ice. I didn’t even watch cause he didn’t play.
