Rangers New Year Wishes

December 31, 2008   ·     ·   Jump to comments

Tonight marks the final day of 2008 and I’ll be raising the roof over at a friend’s later as a New Year is upon us. Though I did read something interesting in that the countdown will include an extra second meaning 61 seconds until 2009 instead of 60.

A rare phenomenon. Speaking of which, the Rangers had a rare occurrence the other night scoring five goals in their win over the Islanders, who bounced back earlier today with a 4-2 home win over Florida highlighted by two Mike Comrie tallies and two helpers from improving rookie Kyle Okposo.

Now, I’m not one for resolutions cause they rarely workout as planned but I do have some New Year’s wishes to pass along to the Rangers, who somehow remain atop the Atlantic with a 23-13-3 record for 49 points- two better than the Flyers and four more than the Devils, who will aim for a third consecutive win later tonight in Big D.

Let’s take a look at my Ranger wish list. Shall we?

Chris Drury-finish breakaways and tape from Avs/Sabres days as a daily reminder.

Scott Gomez-shots that don’t wind up in the crest along with a lighter.

Markus Naslund-keep skating and shooting.

Nikolai Zherdev-tapes of Pavel Bure.

Nigel Dawes-more goals silencing doubters.

Ryan Callahan-tapes of Pat Verbeek.

Petr Prucha-a permanent role along with own cheering squad.

Brandon Dubinsky-tapes of first month showing how aggressive he was.

Lauri Korpikoski-continued ice-time and a few goals as a reward for hard work.

Freddy Sjostrom-instructions to shoot the puck more.

Blair Betts-an ‘A’ on his jersey, real linemates and first Selke nomination recognizing his daily effort.

Colton Orr-highlight goal, PP time and a heavyweight belt.

Aaron Voros-tapes of October, balance and a fight tutor.

Dan Fritsche-a chance on the fourth line.

Wade Redden-like the Tinman in Wizard of Oz, a heart.

Michal Rozsival-keep shooting plus replay of his clean takeout of Evgeni Malkin as a reminder.

Dan Girardi-stay active plus a deserving ‘A.’

Marc Staal-shot tutor plus tapes of Scott Stevens.

Paul Mara-tapes from Phoenix days when he got shots through plus thanks from teammates for always having their back.

Dmitri Kalinin-a one-way ticket to Siberia along with Dac Vee Daniyah.

Corey Potter-a permanent spot on the blueline.

Henrik Lundqvist-a shutout plus tapes of Mike Richter’s glove for him to study.

Stephen Valiquette-a coach’s clipboard plus big thanks from teammates.

Tom Renney-2004 Lightning Stanley Cup “Safe Is Death” video plus dictionary w/o phrase, “Quite Frankly.”

Perry Pearn-a friendly reminder he’s not coaching Ottawa on the PP.

Mike Pelino-more airtime plus a real physical defenseman to work with.

Benoit Allaire-kudos and a well deserved raise.

Glen Sather-like the Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz, a brain plus a box of Cubans.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
