Rangers Capout

January 3, 2009   ·     ·   Jump to comments

Well, at least they didn’t blow a four-goal lead. This time, the Rangers mailed it in dropping a third game to the Capitals 2-1 in the nation’s cap.

Now, being that I’m over my friend Harry’s in Point Pleasant and opted to take in this very exciting Russia-Canada WJC semifinal, I missed the whole thing and apparently, didn’t miss much.

The Rangers don’t fare well there historically. Maybe that factored in. Or perhaps it was my continued negativity with this team because you just don’t know what to expect anymore. They don’t score much but had basically a whole week to prepare for the rematch.

I guess it didn’t matter cause they laid an egg getting only 22 shots on Jose Theodore. That’s just not enough to win against one of the better teams in the Conference.

Petr Prucha scored their lone goal tying it actually giving them a shortlived lead in the second before Alex Semin setup Mike Green for a power play goal. Once again, the dreaded Ranger powerless play cost them allowing yet another shorthanded goal to the game’s best player Alex Ovechkin late in the period. Predictably, that was all they needed to win over Tom Renney’s joke of a system.

By tomorrow after the Devils destroy the joke that is Ottawa, the Blueshirts will be third in a division they once led by a wide margin sitting sixth in the East no longer a playoff lock.

Would it really surprise anyone if they somehow missed? Maybe that’s what is needed for Ranger brass to wake up from the doldrums and realize what needs to be done. :-P
