Calling For A $abre $urrender

My message tonight is simple. Here is the email that I would send right now if I could (Note that email address are purely fictitious):

To: dregier@sabres.com

From: Brian_Sanborn@battleofny.com

Subject: Surrender

Mr. Darcy Regier,

I write you this letter as a Buffalo Sabres fan for almost 27 years now.  First off, I wanted to say that you have done an overall good job with the Sabres in your tenure, despite my calls for your head at times, you know a lot more me about hockey, and I now call on you to do the right thing.  Sell.

Yes, the Sabres are still in contention.  Yes, there are still games to be played.  Yes, Lindy Ruff is a outstanding motivator, and he will not allow his team to quit.  But as evidenced with a loss to the pitiful Islanders tonight, and based on the roster we currently have, and the injuries that have hampered our season, it is clear that we do not have the team to go to the level that we all want to.

I understand that playoff revenue is generally the bottom line as I am sure Mr. Golisano is counting on that revenue stream he so enjoyed for 2006 and 2007, if this team is to really take that next step going forward, sell some players who can be moved now for the benefits of 2009 and beyond.

The Sabres have a good young core in place and signed for the next 4-5 years.  And with some tweaking, and available cap space for next year, I firmly believe if we can stockpile the system again with good young talent, and make good decisions come Free Agency time, 2009-2011 can be years that all Sabres fans can enjoy, similar to the ones we enjoyed in 2006 and 2007.

Darcy, thank you for your time and do the right thing.

Sincerely,

Brian Sanborn, BOTY Blogger

You make a pretty good case. I feel ya. We make the playoffs too and we’re one and done.
