Habs fire Carbonneau, Gainey takes over

March 9, 2009   ·     ·   Jump to comments

Before the Rangers and Hurricanes drop the puck on Versus, just passing along the news that the Canadiens sacked their coach Guy Carbonneau earlier. GM Bob Gainey takes over.

What I’m left wondering is how much better this team can do under the GM who hardly did anything to improve his roster. Wouldn’t it be something if the Habs missed the postseason in their Centennial season? With not a ton of scoring and second-year goalie Carey Price struggling, there’s not much that you can say positive.

They did get a good road win over Dallas last night 3-1 with club leaders Alex Kovalev and Chris Higgins each tallying.

Will the panic move work? I’m skeptical. We’ll see.
