A fan in need

April 28, 2009   ·   Hasan   ·   Jump to comments

I have a request for Derek, Brian and whoever else happens to read this blog.  If anything noteworthy happens with the Devils for say, the next few weeks – please let me know.   Especially if Brent Sutter resigns (please?) or the cyborg pretending to be Mr. Sutter vacates the earth and returns the coach I thought was behind the bench for the Devils for the majority of this season (pretty please?).  It’d also be nice to hear that Martin Brodeur steps to a microphone, shrinks that swelled head of his and admit this team can’t be the Brodeur show and must be a team that he has to adapt to as much as they adapt to him - but I’ll have much more to say on that soon as well as Mr. Sutter and the franchise that now looks like Met wannabes.

Not that I expect either Derek or Brian to really feel sorry for me.  After all, Derek had his own brutal Game 7 loss within an hour of mine (how screwed up is the world when Devil and Ranger fans can actually commisserate?  It’s like the Bill Murray Ghostbusters line ‘Dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!’).  And Brian’s teams don’t even have a pot to take a dump in as far as winning a championship.

That said, I’m sure they’ll understand why I am going cold turkey – other than maybe peeking in at another blog or two that I like.  Certainly message boards are out of the question.  It won’t be hard to avoid hockey on TV or the radio since they more or less try to avoid it too.  The next hockey related thing I plan to pay any attention to is the draft party – maybe.  And the only reason I would even entertain the notion of going to it this year is to see friends, not to celebrate anything team-worthy.

Although if someone could bankrupt the punk franchise known as the Carolina Hurricanes from the face of the earth, I would appreciate that.  Or at least move them back to Hartford, since that group of fans deserve a hockey team far more than the whiny ‘Caniacs’.

Rest assured though, I will be back to speak a piece of my mind about the end of this Devil season (and not just the last 80 seconds).  Maybe tomorrow, the day after.  I will not be looking at any tape of this game, it will be erased if not burned asap.  Maybe some of my critiques won’t be fair because of it but that’s just too darn bad.

In the meantime I plan to watch something funny to take my mind off it and go to bed, get a normal night’s sleep.  Like the immortal Chris Drury said a few months back, ‘I’m not going to let it (a loss) ruin my Christmas’…or spring.  Or summer - whatever it is, it might as well be summer right now.

To a true fan like you, I can honestly say I felt bad for ya. Not for the fans who mocked our goal song. That said, I’ve never seen anything like that ever.

We all know you’re a good fan and can sympathize with how you feel tonight. Please take as much time as needed.

    Hang in there.

Hasan, I completely understand how you feel. I feel bad for both of you tonight actually, even though I’m not a fan of either team, I do not like to see my friends dejected after these games.

Derek knows that I know, he was with me when Kasperitis broke my heart in 2001 in a double OT loss at home against Pittsburgh; it is an empty feeling. But I know you will be back…just take your time.

I would say we were royally screwed when most of the crowd cheered and even waved the towels at the Ranger update (and the fact that the Ranger score was updated twice during the second intermission, usually you only see the QuickChek OOT scores posted once)…if I didn’t know better.

Sometimes there is just no sports justice. Especially when the punk Gleason makes the biggest play on the dive in or the Canes get rewarded for wanting to play us while we got screwed in ’02 for wanting to play them.
