Gee, what a shocker

June 20, 2009   ·   Hasan   ·   Jump to comments

A mere eleven days ago Brent Sutter quit the Devils because of alleged concerns with his family, junior team and businesses back home in Red Deer.  Well, at least two of those reasons are now bunk after word’s come down (via TSN) that Sutter and the Flames have just about reached an agreement for him to replace Mike Keenan as Flames coach.

Actually to be honest, part of me did believe that he would rather coach his junior team than the Devils and that he didn’t want to work with his brother (GM Darryl) in Calgary anyway, even ex-teammates Butch Goring and Dave Maloney said on a recent Hockey Night in NY that they felt he wouldn’t work under his brother.  At least if he’d stayed home full-time he would have had some shred of integrity, but apparently he doesn’t mind being home only part-time while jumping right back into another NHL job.

I have a request for the NHL now…the Devils (like all other teams) have three home-and-home series against Western Conference teams next year.  Last year, we played Dallas, LA and Chicago twice.  This year, I’d love nothing better than to boo Brent but as of now the only scheduled meeting between the two teams is in Red Deer Calgary.

Assuming Brent takes this job though, the next two home games I absolutely have to go to are against Detroit (we haven’t played them in three years and it’d be nice to welcome Raffy back too) and the next time Calgary comes in, presuming Brent doesn’t quit them before that happens.

looks like we wrote at the same time on the identical topic. I also am a little perturbed by this.
