Islanders deal for No.16 overall

June 26, 2009   ·   Derek Felix   ·   Jump to comments

The Islanders aren’t done making headlines. As reported by outstanding TSN floor reporter Darren Dreger, the franchise has moved up 10 spots, deadling their No.26 to the Blue Jackets for the No.16 overall pick. Officially, they give up No’s 26, 37, 62 & 92 to Columbus for 16 & 77. Credit to Avalangelist on Twitter!

With plenty of picks in the first three rounds, they likely used a couple to position themselves. There’s obviously someone else Garth Snow covets. Will it be another finisher to play with John Tavares and Kyle Okposo or is this a defenseman the club could badly use? We’ll have to wait and see.

Here’s who’s gone so far:

1.John Tavares, NYI

2.Victor Hedman, TB

3.Matt Duchene, Col

4.Evander Kane, Atl

5.Brayden Schenn, LA

6.Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Phx

7.Toronto

8.Dallas

9.Ottawa

10.Edmonton

Great tribute by the LA Kings organization to Quebec native Luc Robitaille, who will go into the Hockey Hall of Fame this November.

More draft stuff later!
