Clemmensen lands in Florida

Well last season’s Cinderella story will have a new address this year with word that Scott Clemmensen has inked a 3 year, $3.6 million deal with the Panthers to be Tomas Vokoun‘s backup.  That’s actually better than I thought he’d do moneywise, and seeing as Vokoun’s not quite the 77-game a year goalie Martin Brodeur is odds are he’ll get his share of playing time.

I’m actually happy for him, though Clemmensen’s departure likely means the return of fragile Kevin Weekes as the backup, or a scrub that won’t play more than 5-7 games next year.  Maybe the Panthers will give him a start at the Rock next year and those of us that appreciated the work Clem did last year can finally give him a nice hand that we didn’t get to when he was still a Devil since he never started a game once Brodeur came back.

I also suspect this won’t be the last so long post I do in the next few days, with John Madden, Brian Gionta, Mike Rupp and Brendan Shanahan still UFA’s.
