Heatley the new Yashin

Well, it’s official. Dany Heatley is the new Alexei Yashin. The Ottawa Senators have revisited history they’d sooner forget. Even if they did eventually ripoff Mike Milbury for the holdout center, stealing Zdeno Chara and a No.1 pick (Jason Spezza). Bet some forgot about Bill Muckalt also being thrown in.

Almost a decade later, how do you think the Sens feel tonight after seeing their childish star turn down the Oilers, who were more desperate than I’d be to get a date with Jennifer Love Hewitt? It’s bad enough Heatley, who was extended for a handsome amount requested a trade. But then to not even accept the deal and get a divorce already from a bad situation getting uglier by the minute takes the cake.

Who does this guy think he is? This is just very poor judgment on his part. Especially once the Rangers overpaid for Marian Gaborik. The collective writing was on the wall. So, why is Heatley being so stubborn? Is he scared to play in Western Alberta? Can you imagine this guy here? He’d have gotten ripped apart.

Perhaps our Buffalo blogger Brian is right about maybe the Kings eventually getting involved as they possess plenty of prospects and could use a player of Heatley’s stature to put them back on the map in a very competitive Pacific. Assuming he doesn’t quit on them.

I don’t know what the answer is anymore. There aren’t enough negative words in the dictionary for what the finisher has done to two Canadian cities. Maybe Canada will declare war on Dany Heatley.

One thing is clear. It’s Yashin all over again. If I were Bryan Murray, I wouldn’t even bother trading this loser. I’d exile him. That’s what he deserves.
