Heatley Update

July 1, 2009   ·   Derek Felix   ·   Jump to comments

I just literally walked in and it’s past 1 AM here. Had a fun night covering a minor league ballgame that went 11 with the always exciting walkoff. Made up for the rain and lengthy stay.

As Hasan noted earlier, Dany Heatley rejected the Sens’ trade to Edmonton meaning that once again, an NHL star dissed them. How would you feel if you were an Oiler fan? Pretty peeved. I have been animate that I don’t want anything to do with this self centered brat. His vanilla persona isn’t cut out for New York and I’d much prefer the Rangers to chase after Phil Kessel.

Tonight, Heatley proved how gutless he really is. The same man who asked out of Atlanta (at least that was a legit reason-RIP Daniel Snyder) now forces Ottawa’s hands when he’s signed longterm getting handsomely paid. And when they find a suitor who is willing to give them the best package they could get under the circumstances, he has the gall to turn it down. Bad on you Dany. If you ask out, you shouldn’t be allowed to use your authority to reject any deal. I could care less what his no-trade says. That’s hogwash once he whines his way out of there.

If you were another team thinking about adding this quitter to your roster, wouldn’t you think twice before making an offer? Heatley is a quality finisher but you just never know when he might give up on his teammates. I almost wish Bryan Murray would exile him. Of course, that won’t happen and eventually he’ll find a new team. I just hope it’s not mine.

One other piece of key info regarding the $4 million the Sens would be on the hook for. According to the very reliable Darren Dreger of TSN via twitter, the NHL has ruled that they don’t have to pay up until midnight tonight. So, the pressure’s on to get something done. Too bad the player isn’t doing them any favors.

Final thought and one I will stand by if somehow Heatley squirms his way to the Big Apple. Dany Heatley is a loser! I’ll never cheer for him. For the love of God, please let this snake go elsewhere. I hope Glen Sather finds anyone else.
