Rangers re-sign Higgins (Updated)

July 6, 2009   ·     ·   Jump to comments

The Rangers re-signed Chris Higgins to a one-year deal. Terms were disclosed.

The 26 year-old Smithtown, NY native was acquired last week in a deal for Scott Gomez that also included top prospect Ryan McDonagh coming with Tom Pyatt going the other way. Pavel Valentenko was also involved with Mike Busto winding up with the Habs.

No surprise that the Blueshirts got Higgins re-upped. Just wonder what the cost was. He made $1.9 million in an injury riddled 2008-09. So, figure between 2 and 2.4 with the club still needing to get Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan, headache Nikolai Zherdev and Lauri Korpikoski done along with Brian Boyle and Corey Potter.

UPDATE: According to ESPN, it’s $2.25 million. Seems reasonable. Some Ranger fans wanted more years but he’s coming off an injury riddled down season. So, no shock that Slats wants him to prove himself.
