FA Frenzy Day 5: Versteeg Re-signs

July 7, 2009   ·   Derek Felix   ·   Jump to comments

Day Five of the frenzy has been fairly light. Aside from the two big news items posted with Pronger signing an extension with Philly and The Monster landing in Toronto, nothing earth shattering.

Here is a quick recap:

1.Dany Sabourin signs with Bruins for a year (no terms). Looks like Tim Thomas’ new backup with Manny Fernandez expected to head elsewhere. They also added minor league forward Drew Fata.

2.Todd Marchant re-signs with Ducks for 2 yrs, $2.25 million. Solid veteran checking center stays put.

3.Jeff Woywitka signs with Stars for 2 yrs, $1.3 million. So, one part of the Pronger trade to St. Louis heads to Big D to aid a thin blueline. Nothing special.

4.Jamie Lundmark re-signs with Flames for a yr, 600 K. The former Ranger 1999 No.1 pick proved he can play a little at the NHL level filling in nicely. Calgary also added forward Jason Jaffray.

5.Stephane Veilleux signs with Lightning for a yr, 750 K. The depth forward had a nice year for the Wild scoring 13 goals and 10 assists. Third/fourth line duty in St. Pete.

6.Former Leafs Jeremy Williams and Kris Newbury sign with the Red Wings each getting one year, two-way contracts (TBA). AHL Fodder.

7.Pascal Pelletier signs for a year with the Blue Jackets (two-way deal).

8.Joel Kwiatkowksi re-signs with Thrashers (terms disclosed). Energizer stays put.

UPDATE: Per Marty Baceda on Twitter, he says Kris Versteeg has re-signed with the Blackhawks. Terms: 3 yrs, $9.25 million.

If it becomes official, we’ll link it up. That would be the best case scenario for Chicago meaning they’d have re-signed everyone following that NHL investigation that negated the qualifying offers.

CONFIRMED: Versteeg officially re-signed
