Rangers re-sign Byers

July 11, 2009   ·     ·   Jump to comments

Yesterday, the Rangers re-signed forward Dane Byers. The former 2004 second round pick had an injury riddled 2008-09 with the Wolf Pack playing in just 11 games while posting seven points (4-3-7) and 18 penalty minutes.

He missed the final 71 regular season games due to injury before returning healthy for the playoffs where he performed well- tying for the club lead in goals (3) and second in points (4) over six games.

The 23 year-old who’s listed at 6-3, 195 is expected to compete for a roster spot this Fall. With enforcer Colton Orr no longer around and just goon Donald Brashear here, Byers is expected to finally be NHL ready. Does he round out a hard checking line with Brash and Brian Boyle or teammate Brodie Dupont? That depends on camp.

Hopefully, he and Dupont will get fair shakes instead of the usual song and dance from a hypocritical organization that rarely practices what it preaches.
