Sabres re-sign Sekera, MacArthur

July 20, 2009   ·     ·   Jump to comments

The Sabres re-signed restricteds Andrej Sekera and Clarke MacArthur earlier today. Sekera got a multi-year contract and MacArthur agreed to a one-year deal before arbitration. Terms were disclosed.

Buffalo has one key player left to re-sign in forward Drew Stafford. The 23 year-old former 2004 first round pick posted career highs in games (79), goals (20), assists (25), points (45) and penalty minutes (51).  The University of North Dakota product’s production has improved in three consecutive seasons from 27 points his rookie season (06-07) to 38 to 45.

Stafford finished his entry level contract earning 984 K. So, he should get a nice raise. Considering the improvement and that he might be on the verge of bigger things, this is a guy the Sabres should try signing to three or four years. We’ll see how Darcy Regier plays it.

Not returning to Buffalo will be Maxim Afinogenov (UFA), Dominic Moore (UFA) and Teppo Numminen. It’s also unlikely Andrew Peters does even though the goon always provided entertainment.
