Islanders re-sign Hillen

July 30, 2009   ·     ·   Jump to comments

Yesterday, the Islanders re-signed defenseman Jack Hillen to a two-year contract. They signed the 23 year-old Minnetonka, Minnesota native last year as a free agent out of Colorado College.

After a good senior year in which he netted six goals and 31 helpers for 37 points winning Defenseman of the Year, Hillen debuted with the Islanders that season getting into two games recording an assist. In 40 games last season, he tallied six points including his first NHL goal on March 5 versus Ranger goalie Henrik Lundqvist.

For the Isles, it’s another depth move. Figure Hillen to compete with Freddy Meyer and former draft pick Andrew MacDonald for the sixth spot on the blueline. The club’s top five consists of Mark Streit, Brendan Witt, Andy Sutton, Radek Martinek and Bruno Gervais.
