Islanders re-sign Comeau, Sabres add McCormick

August 3, 2009   ·   Derek Felix   ·   Jump to comments

A day before the big town rally about the proposed Lighthouse Project, the Islanders re-signed forward Blake Comeau to a two-year one-way contract (terms disclosed).

In his second season, the 23 year-old former Isles’ 2004 second round pick played in 53 games while netting career bests in assists (18), points (25), shots (78), power play goals (2), power play points (9) and penalty minutes (32).

Comeau will be expected to have a bigger role on the club this Fall as No.1 overall selection John Tavares debuts. He’ll be one of a handful of Islanders at tomorrow’s meeting. Islander and New York Hockey Report pal Gary Harding had a little more on it at the View From Section 317.

You can find out even more from Islanders Point Blank’s Chris Botta, who runs a top notch blog. The former Islander PR man will be one of many in attendance tomorrow. Best of luck to everyone. Here’s hoping it’s a huge success helping get the new arena the club so desperately needs.

Sabres add McCormick: The Isles weren’t the only Battle team making news. Over the weekend, the Sabres added some depth up front signing former Av Cody McCormick to a one-year deal worth 550 K.

The 26 year-old London, Ontario native posted a goal and 11 assists along with 92 penalty minutes in 55 contests last season for Colorado. In parts of five seasons, McCormick’s totaled nine goals and 21 helpers for 30 points while racking up 250 PIM.

He’s a solid energy player who can provide a lift when needed. McCormick should be popular with the Sabre faithful. A decent addition.
