Sabres assign 14, cut down to 33

September 25, 2009   ·   Derek Felix   ·   Jump to comments

Today, the Buffalo Sabres assigned 14 players to Portland including former first rounders Tyler Ennis and Dennis Persson. Also going to the ‘A’ are forwards Paul Byron, Brad Larsen, Maxime Legault, Mark McCutcheon, Kyle Rank, Travis Turnbull and Derek Whitmore. Defensemen T.J. Brennan, Matt Generous (but seriously), Mike Kostka and Drew Schiestel along with goalie J.P. Lamoureux were also sent down.

That leaves the Sabres with 33 players still in camp including 19 forwards, 11 D and three netminders. Here’s the breakdown:

G-Ryan Miller, Patrick Lalime, Jhonas Enroth

D-Toni Lydman, Craig Rivet, Steve Montador, Andrej Sekera, Tyler Myers, Nathan Paetsch, Mike Weber, Chris Butler, Henrik Tallinder, Marc-Andre Gragnani, Joe DiPenta

LW-Jochen Hecht, Clarke McArthur, Daniel Paille, Matt Ellis, Jeff Cowan, Tim Kennedy

C-Derek Roy, Tim Connolly, Paul Gaustad, Adam Mair, Cody McCormick, Nathan Gerbe, Felix Schutz

RW-Thomas Vanek, Jason Pominville, Drew Stafford, Mike Grier, Patrick Kaleta, Mark Mancari

Mair Blogging Away: Also on the Sabre official team site is Mair’s own blog appropriately entitled Mair’s Office. The veteran pivot who occasionally wears the ‘A’ discusses his recovery from hip surgery as well as weighing in on important issues such as when players rip helmets off during fights which can be dangerous due to any head injury sustained from being dropped on the ice. He also gets into the subject of visors and what can be done about players willing to go with them on. The safety aspect he touches on is interesting.

Definitely an educational read and one we suggest.
