Danis to start tomorrow, Nieds out and Elias still iffy this weekend

November 5, 2009   ·   Hasan   ·   Jump to comments

Things just got a lot more interesting for tomorrow’s Devils-Islanders meeting at the Rock – the teams’ first of the season – for ex-Isle Yann Danis will get the nod against his former team.  At last it seems as if we won’t have Martin Brodeur on a 77-game workload this year for this will be Danis’ second start in eight days.  Unfortunately the news isn’t all that great on the injury front (what else is new), since Rob Niedermayer is now among the MIA, out for the next two games.  While it’s likely Patrik Elias will come back this weekend, it’s still not certain whether it’ll be tomorrow, Saturday or both games.

Oh, and the Devils recalled defenseman Jay Leach from Lowell but had to subject Leach to re-entry waivers.  If he isn’t claimed by noon tomorrow it’s likely he’ll play at least one of the games this weekend, especially with a third defensive pairing of rookie Mark Fraser and the scary bad Cory Murphy each only getting around ten minutes a night, driving up the icetime of everyone else such as Mike Mottau and Andy Greene, who’ve both averaged around 25 minutes a night the last few games.

They have all these injuries yet are able to survive. You can’t kill the Devils. Michael Myers, Jason and Freddy Krueger rolled into one. :-P
