Fleury, Maven auto books for fans
November 18, 2009 · Derek Felix · Jump to comments
The night wasn’t a total loss. We got into the city early enough to visit Cosby’s and get Stan Fischler and Chico Resch’s book,”Who’s Better: Rangers, Devils, Islanders or Flyers,” which the Maven signed as we caught up with a man I once worked for. They should’ve just called it, “Hahahahaha” because everyone knows who really is better.
Aside from that, it was nice to chat with Stan, who in typical fashion downplayed the Devils hot start. We also had the chance to meet the one and only The Mouth, who runs a very entertaining blog and airs Ranger Crisis weekly. Ironically, his last show featured Theo Fleury, who was also in town to auto his very emotional and quite interesting book, “Playing With Fire,” which details the many demons he encountered from an early age. It’s a fascinating read.
Of course, the fam and Eddie (Mouth) waited patiently at Borders under the Garden for Fleury to sign. Not surprisingly, thanks to my brother Justin recognizing him in the street by Cosby’s, there was plenty of entertaining chit chat with Mouth appreciating my brother’s sharp wit when it comes to nicknaming Rangers. We took a pic of him and Theo, who when told he was the one who interviewed him, got a great chuckle out of it. Thanks to Eddie, he took a pic of our family and friend as we got to shake the man who might have scored 700 had he kept things under control. I told him that he was an inspiration and that I read the final half in one day, which prompted a nice response.
The main thing is that Theo looks good and had the usual firm grip you’d expect. He seemed in great spirits. Hopefully, this next phase of his life will treat him well. We’d again like to thank The Mouth for the pic and quickly forwarding it. We’ll try to put it up at some point. It was a real pleasure. Keep up the good work!
As good as that was, the real highlight came at Cosby’s when two gorgeous gals from Norway showed up, creating quite a stir. They were about as elegantly dressed as could be and very down to earth. Both Eddie and I chatted with them about their stay in The Big Apple, which amazingly enough was their third time back this year. Wow. Please return soon!
Predictably, they were also in for the game to which we told them about Alex Ovechkin and the Russian jersey I had on. One gal named Leena (hope that’s right) lamented that it was hard finding tix to which I smiled because these days, they’re giving games away like candy corn. Pretty sad.
I informed her that next time, just to go to the official Ranger site and click on the Ticket Exchange. That way there’s no problem. After that, they were on their way. It still amazes me how this city attracts so many tourists. And usually, they wind up at a Ranger game. But more scintillating was how magnificent these two were, looking like they could be on Fifth Avenue. On a radar of 1-10, let’s just say they scored off the charts.
Hope they enjoyed the game. Even if it was kind of a bummer on what was a good night.
